Ground Zero illnesses show complexity of toxic exposure cases

Secretary of Labor responds to annual worker fatality data

When preventable tragedy strikes in the workplace, it is critical that federal regulators, employers and employees learn as much as they can from the incident in order to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Recently, data on how many fatal work accident tragedies occurred in the U.S. in 2012 was released. The only benefit that Americans can hope to gain from this tragic loss of life is wisdom that can be used to prevent future fatal workplace accidents.

OSHA proposes crystalline silica exposure protections

We frequently write about safety hazards in the workplace that can lead to serious work-related injuries. However, a staggering number of American workers are harmed not by injuries at work but by toxic exposure that leads to severe occupational illness. The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is currently attempting to curb some of the most serious illnesses individuals develop in the workplace through a newly proposed rule that would help to prevent toxic exposure to crystalline silica.
