The most common work-related injuries are...

We frequently write about various hazards that exist in various American industries and workplaces. If properly attended to, these hazards can generally be navigated safely. But accidents do happen and injuries continue to occur in even the most safety-conscious workplaces. A survey recently conducted by Findlaw indicates that seven work-related injuries are currently the most common occurring in the U.S. today.

At the bottom of the list are injuries resulting from workplace violence and burns, which account for roughly five and three percent of injuries respectively. The fact that workplace violence makes the top seven list of injuries at all is disconcerting, as workplace violence is never an accident.

Climbing up to the four and five most common injury spots are object collisions/machinery injuries and motor vehicle accidents. Motor vehicle accidents are causing an increasing number of work-related injuries and fatalities. If federal regulators do not focus on this category in particular, it could soon find itself in the top three.

However, the top three most common work-related injuries today are repetitive motion injuries, slip-and-fall injuries and musculoskeletal injuries are at number one. Perhaps because musculoskeletal injuries can plague office workers and more physical laborers alike is why this type of injury claims the top spot. A whopping 37 percent of all work-related injuries fit this categorization.

No matter what kind of work employees do or where they do their work, American teens and adults seeking an honest day’s wage deserve to be safe in the workplace. Though accidents do happen and injuries do occur even under the best of circumstances, too many American employers are failing to ensure that workers are given the best chances at remaining safe on the job. This reality obviously needs to change for the better. But until it does, injured workers can attempt to hold negligent employers accountable under the law for injurious harm they have suffered on the job.
